Dr Alison Louise Jones MD FRCP

Dr Alison Jones graduated from Bristol University in 1980 and after general medical experience, specialised in Medical Oncology, training at the Royal Marsden Hospital where she also undertook a higher degree in Biological Therapy of Cancer for an MD thesis (1993).

She took up a Consultantís post in Medical Oncology with Honorary Senior Lecturer status at the Royal Free University Hospital in 1993, initially treating a wide range of tumours. She subsequently specialised in breast cancer and works across the Royal Free Hospital and University College Hospital London Teaching Hospitals with an outreach clinic at the Whittington Hospital, seeing approximately 350 new cases of breast cancer per annum. She is active in clinical trials in breast cancer and is the principal investigator on a number of Phase II and III studies within her local institution and is on the Steering Committee of many multi-centre trials within the United Kingdom. She is Chair of the Breast Cancer Tumour Board for the North London Cancer Network representing the multidisciplinary teams from six hospitals over a population of 1.2 million responsible for development of guidelines, systemic audit, introduction of new drugs procedures, service development and research portfolio. She is Clinical Director of Cancer Services within University College Hospital and is also a member of the London New Drugs Group which advises on the introduction of new drugs throughout the five London networks. She is a member of CTAAC and also sits on the NCRI Institute of Complementary Therapy Advisory Study Group and the CRUK/UCL Scientific Advisory Committee. She is a member of the British Breast Group ESMO and ASCO. In 2006 she became Chair of the Association of Cancer Physicians of Cancer Physicians of the United Kingdom representing all medical oncologists in consultant training grades throughout the country and providing advice to the Royal Colleges and Government bodies on matters of policy, training, education and development relating to cancer.

She has an interest in all aspects of breast cancer from diagnosis through treatment, and in particular has an interest in young women with breast cancer, pregnancy-associated breast cancer and fertility-related issues. She has undertaken psychosocial research in relation to breast cancer and family relationships. She currently is a co-grantee on a DOH funding project investigating the pharmocogenetics of anthracycline cardiotoxicity in women with breast cancer. She is also co-grantee on a service development organisation grant looking at continuity of care for cancer patients. She has a strong interest in medical education and has published on the subject.
